about
my statement
14 years before their first performance, nats technical training began by learning how to fall at aerials gymnastics in arlington texas. nat trained here throughout adolescence, and made their debut performance at the plaza theatre company in cleburne texas at the age of 17. a year later nat was accepted to the kim dawson conservatory in dallas texas, and continued to perform around the dfw metroplex through the course of this education.
during this time nat also had the opportunity to intern for michael druck casting.
nat adapted to the covid-19 pandemic by shifting course from performance arts, to video marketing, and worked for various companies including the clvr marketing agency until moving to vermont in 2022.
during their first year in vermont nat began to learn flying-trapeze from the new england center for circus arts, and worked with the vermont theatre center. later nat was accepted to bennington college.
at bennington college nat studied a variety of performance techniques, and developed a love for contact-improvisation, and improvisational practice on a larger scale. simultaneously nat studied the japanese language.
in 2025 nat was selected for the united states gilman grant, and traveled to japan to deepen their understanding of japanese performance styles. making his tokyo performance debut in january 2026 with kota yamazaki, mina nishimura, and miyu motegi.
my choreographic process
Nat Rubenson is a choreographer and actor based between Osaka, and Vermont. He’s drawn to the quantum nature of trauma, and uses improvisation, ekphrasis, and various other techniques to shape performance pieces that speak to this subject. He holds a B.A. from Bennington College, & an A.A. from Kim Dawson Conservatory. He is also a member of the U.S Actors Equity union since 2023. In addition to his creative practice, he is a direct-support social worker in Vermont.
my experience
Ekphrasis permeates most of nat’s works. he finds launching into the middle of a conversation rather exciting, and in many cases Ekphrasis is the most direct way for them to do this.
typically once a seed has been planted, then begins an improvisational and theoretical exploration that flows into a workflow adapted from 3d animators processes of Modeling, Texturing, Rigging, Animating, Lighting, & Rendering, before the final piece is found.

As a child, nat’s best friend was constantly vlogging and creating early YouTube skits, for this friends 17th birthday nat got together with some friends to pool money together and buy him a dslr camera from a pawn shop. while inspecting this camera nat had so much fun that he returned and bought the other one the shop had for himself.
as a Newley licensed driver living in the suburbs this camera meant one thing: adventure. nat took pictures of his friends while sneaking into construction sites, abandoned buildings, graveyard churches, eventually these photos were noticed by Andrew Czap of prelude films, and he hired nat as his marketing assistant at grace community church in Arlington Texas. here in addition to photography nat began to learn the trade of industrial/testimonial videography.at the Kim Dawson conservatory nat studied narrative filmmaking under Bob Coonrod and had the opportunity to work in various capacities on a wide range of projects. then in 2020 nat began working for crafthtv America as their director of video marketing. and in 2021 he was hired by the clvr marketing agency.
